Special live performances of the artists from Okinawa and “Eisa”,which is one of the Okinawa’s local arts are coming soon.
【What is Eisa?】
Eisa is one of the traditional arts entertainments in Okinawa, especially the Bon dancing that Japanese do in order to welcome the spirit of the ancestors coming back to the earth at the time of the Bon Festival. They wear Okinawa’s traditional folk costume and have a parade, playing the traditional musical instruments of Okinawa such as sansen and drums and dancing.
Location : The stage prepared specially for the event at the Sun Set Beach in Chatan-cho
Enjoy the concert of Rinken Band led by Rinken Teruya. The members have developed a new style of music called “Okinawa Pop” by skillfully combining the traditional musical instruments of Okinawa such as shamisen and shima-daiko and the modern musical instruments such as drums, keyboards and bass. Their performance will be the finale of a four-day event at the beach.

In 2001, she released a new single “Nada so so” which became a big hit and made the charts for 116 weeks in a row. She had an opportunity to sing at the Kohaku Uta Gassen, an annual music show in Japan for the first time in 2002 and was chosen the a singer with the most magnificent voice at the Japan Record Awards in 2004. The special concert by Rimi Natsukawa, whose singing voice attracts men and women of all ages, is going to be held as an opening event of the first Okinawa International Movie Festival.

Toru Yonaha is a singer who displays his originality in Shima Uta, which is classical music of Okinawa. He has developed the skills in singing and playing shamisen since he was a child and never lost them. Moreover he was awarded the various prizes in his show-business career and is going to develop a new concept of Shima Uta.

Tink tink is a professional female singing duo produced by Rinken Teruya. They provide a performance mainly at the live music clubs not only in Japan but also in Asian countries such as China, Taiwan, and Singapore, and are known as a young singing duo that represents Okinawa. Both of them have a friendly character as well as the ability to sing and dance, which adds charm to their songs and makes the listeners feel relaxed. A nostalgic tune of their songs and a relaxing way of their talking are liked by many people regardless of age. They have a large repertoire of songs as they sing not only their own songs but also folk songs of Okinawa.

She was born of a father, who was an instructor of shamisen and a mother, who sang to a shamisen accompaniment. She earnestly learned how to sing folk songs of Okinawa from her uncle, Koichi Kamiya, who was a folk singer. Shortly afterward her skill in singing was admired by the folk singers and she won first prize at the folk song singing competition in Okinawa when she was in the third year in high school. She released “Miyarabi Shimauta” (in 2003), “Tinjara” (in 2004), and “Yasashisano Kakera” (in 2006) so far and continues to explore a new field of pop music, realizing the importance of Shima Uta.

Yumi Isa is a pop singer in Okinawa who sings Rinsuke Teruya’s songs. Rinsuke Teruya was a big star of Okinawa’s pop culture and known as “Terurin.” In January 2009, Yumi Isa went solo after she finished doing a stage performance as “Mihanagumi.” She sings traditional folk songs of Okinawa as well as Rinsuke Teruya’s songs. And A nostalgic tune of her songs with the sound of Okinawa’s musical instruments such as sansen and sanba makes the listeners feel relaxed.

An Okinawa’s word “churaku” means “beautiful” and “respectful.” The members decided to name themselves after this word because they hoped to perform their songs heartily and respectfully. Ai’s distinctive singing voice with a taste of Okinawa and Mai’s simple and straight singing voice produce harmony between them. The sound of sansen and keyboards as well as their voices make the listeners familiar with Okinawa. Their songs are just like an oasis for everyone.

Resumed singing songs and won the prize for new singer in “The Yaeyama Classical Music Competition” in 1993. Released her first album “Shima Tsundasa” in 1998 and has produced her original albums regularly ever since. Continues to sing songs at her regular concert and at the various events not only in Okinawa but also in other areas of Japan.
Pursued a career as a leader and a bassist of “ZELDA,” which is a pioneer in female rock band, for sixteen years. Moved to Okinawa in 1995. Provides music in her own original way and offers a special workshop now.
