Symposium : Technical innovation and future of contents media

The media available to us are improving day by day because of the development of digital technique. The advanced computing system has offered various ways of enjoying digital contents to many people, ranging from digital contents creators to general users who enjoy them. In this speech I’m going to tell you about the prospects for digital contents in the future that will grow out of Intel digital technique, giving some examples.

Kazumasa Yoshida

Majored in sociology at Western State College of Colorado and graduated from it in 1982. Got employed by Intel Corporation and was assigned to the marketing division for microcomputer product in 1984. Assumed the product-marketing manager and the area sales manager of Intel Corporation in 1988. Assumed the OEM platform-service division manager and the account executive of Intel Corporation in 1993. Assumed the marketing manager of the consumer-desktop product division in 1996. Assumed the manager of the enterprise service operational headquarters and the technology/OEM alliance business strategy division in 1999. Assumed the manager of the communication product operational headquarters of Intel Corporation in 2000. Assumed the manager of Intel architecture operational headquarters of Intel Corporation in 2002. Assumed the president of Intel Corporation on June 1, 2003. Assumed the vice-president of Intel Corporation sales & marketing headquarters in December 2004.

Panel Discussion : A

Internationally active Japanese movie makers

Recently Japanese films have been remade in Hollywood, and Japanese producers and digital contents creators have been active in foreign countries, which shows that the films are getting borderless and globalization applies to the film industry as well. Three panelists who are evaluated highly even in foreign countries are going to conduct a panel discussion in order to think about the meaning of the actors’ appearing in the films that attract worldwide attention.

Takashige Ichise

Takashige Ichise

Born in 1961. He made his debut as a theatrical producer at age 23. He made "Tokyo the Last Megalopolis" ("Teito Monogatari") (1988) a blockbuster and doubled as a director of the sequel of "Tokyo the Last Wars" ("Teito Taisen") (1989). The "Ring" (1998) series recorded Japan domestic box-office sales of 8 billion yen, and set Japanese film new records throughout the world. A remake of "The Ring" (2002) became a big hit with the US box-office sales of 130 million dollars. "The Grudge(The Juon)" (2004) coproduced with Sam Raimi won the first place in US box-office sales, gracing him with the reputation as Hollywood's most popular Japanese film producer. He signed a first-look contract with a Hollywood's major studio, Twentieth Century Fox, in 2006, a first for a Japanese producer.

Kazuaki Kiriya

Kazuaki Kiriya

Born on April 20, 1968 in Kumamoto Prefecture. Went to the U.S. in March 1983. Active as a photographer in New York from 1994 to 1999. Moved his main work place to Tokyo in 1999 and has worked as a photographer and video creator. “CASSHERN” the movie he directed for the first time was released in 2004. His second movie as a director “GOEMON” will be released in May 2009.

Macoto Tezka

Macoto Tezka

Born in 1961. Visualist. Started making 8-mm films while in high school, and were highly evaluated by film directors such as Nagisa Oshima. When he was at university, he made a debut as a commercial movie director with “Legend of Stardust Brothers (Hoshikuzu kyodai no densetsu).” With a title “visualist,” his activities of expression range from movies, all kinds of videos, novels, events, CG, and multimedia beyond the boundary of genres. Won the Digital Award of the Venice International Film Festival with the theatrical film “The Idiot (Hakuchi)” in 1999. Directed TV animation “Black Jack” in 2004, which was selected as an outstanding work of Tokyo Anime Awards. Often appears in TV programs and active as a lecturer. Representative director of Neontetra Ltd. Board member of Tezuka Productions.

CG evolution ~more pleasant future of film~

This is a special event where you can enjoy a spin-off from the TV program “Evolutionary theory of CG ~a 45-year history of CG in the films,” which was broadcast on WOWWOW and attracted the attention of film industry. The leading visual creators in Japan as well as the actors who appeared in the program are going to have a panel discussion about the future prospects of the film industry. You can also enjoy experiencing the new technology IBC.

Shinji Higuchi

Shinji Higuchi

Born in 1965. Involved in creating special effects of many movies, and served as assistant director of “Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise (Oritsu Uchugun: Oneamisu no tsubasa)” in 1987. Attracted attention as special effects director of the Heisei “Gamera” series since 1995 by combining miniatures and digital technology. Made a debut as a movie director with “Minimoni the (ja) movie okashina daibouken!” in 2002. Directed “Lorelei” in 2005 and “Japan Sinks (Nihon chinbotsu)” in 2006, both of which became a huge hit. Storyboarded “Saiyuki” and “Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (Evangelion Shin Gekijoban: Jo)” in 2007. Directed “The Last Princess” in 2008. Currently creating storyboard of the second movie of “Evangelion” in 2009.

Hiroyuki Seshita

Hiroyuki Seshita

Born in 1967. Executive director of Casio Entertainment. Engaged in CG/VFX of movies “Kappa (1994)” and “Parasite Eve (1997)” as well as commercials, event videos and video games. Served as Art Director for the movie “Final Fantasy” at Square USA In 1997. Came back to Japan in 2000 and served as a designer/VFX supervisor of “Final Fantasy X” and other games at Square (current Square Enix). Involved in establishing Casio Entertainment in 2004. VFX director of “Dainipponjin (directed by Hitoshi Matsumoto)” (officially invited to 2007 Cannes Film Festival) in 2007,nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 2008 Asian Film Awards.

Ryo Sakaguchi

Ryo Sakaguchi

Born in 1978. Moved to Los Angeles in order to work for Digital Domain Productions Inc. as a probationer in 1999, when he was at the university. Engaged in visual effects of “X-MEN” and “The Grinch” during probation. Designed the set of tsunami in New York for “The Day After Tomorrow” as well as “The Time Machine” and “Triple X,” after becoming a full-time worker in 2001. Engaged in visual effects of “Flags of Our Fathers,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “The Golden Compass,” and “Speed Racer” from 2005 to 2008. Won the Academy Scientific and Technical award in 2008 for his and his co-worker’s encouraging engineering development of water scene for “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Day After Tomorrow,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.” Directs the members of visual effect team for his next great work as a leader now.
